Whilst all of the pubs in Kildare have attracted the racing fraternity, Cunningham’s has long been the one where all elements of racing from Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable hands drink shoulder to shoulder whilst animatedly discussing the days form at the track! From our own family history comes ‘Knight of the Grail’, Winner of the Irish Derby 1927 was bred at our Grandfather’s Stud farm Rathmoyle Stud in Rhode, Co Offaly.
Cunningham’s has been in our family since 1994 although our family have been in business in Kildare town for over one hundred years. We pride ourselves greatly on our relationship with the racing Community and indeed our proximity to the world-renowned Curragh Racecourse.
Over the past 4 years we were delighted to be able to add 10 bespoke Bedrooms to our premises. Inspired by our love of luxury and travel, our rooms are residential in feel and decorated in a timeless and classic style.
We also extended in to “Next Door” and opened The Dining Room in 2021 offering our Thai and European culinary dishes.
In addition, we also opened The Pavilion Bar which is a cosy bar centred around the stove and showcasing a fine Whiskey shelf. We have 5 screens throughout Cunningham’s showing all Racing and sport.
Music plays a huge part in our fabric and so we proudly hold a reserved area for our Traditional Irish Musicians who come to play a couple of times a week. In fact, if you can play or sing (or Not!) we do encourage you to join in as our ‘normal’ band numbers can swell on any given evening with players arriving to join in with the general camaraderie that trad sessions evoke.
Kildare Town is unique in that the businesses sit around the old market trading house making it a great walk about town and literally just a stone’s throw away from Kildare Village Outlet and The Irish National Stud. The Town meets at the main gates to St Brigid’s Cathedral which steeps it in historical beauty.
