Racing Academy & Centre of Education (RACE) was established in 1973 as a social project to offer support to young racing apprentices and has gradually evolved over more than forty years to become the national training academy for the Irish horseracing industry offering courses for jockeys, stable staff, racehorse trainers, breeders and others involved in the thoroughbred sector. The RACE Academy Experience engages horse enthusiasts & racing fans who want to get a unique insight into what it takes to become a jockey or work with racehorses. It is unlike other sporting visits in that you get to touch a horse, sit on a Horse Simulator and measure yourself against required standards. Guests will receive a warm welcome from their guide before a guided tour of the facilities takes place. Safely enter a stable and interact with a racehorse. All of our horses are ex-racehorses in active retirement.
They have had wonderful careers and now they are teaching the next generation of jockeys. You can try riding a simulator and receive ‘tuition’ from an instructor, can measure strength & fitness against professional standards. You will receive a personalized photo in racing gear, and meet industry faces, and real trainees and apprentices. Our horses are the backbone of our practical training and we are very grateful to their owners for permanently loaning them to RACE. Each horse has an equally important role to play in the training we provide. Every horse is assessed by our Instructors in terms of stable manners and in terms of riding characteristics. RACE provides training for riders from beginners through to professional jockeys and we have horses to match every level of experience. We maintain the highest standards of care and management for our horses and they enjoy a wonderful life at RACE.
